finally allowed back home in san bruno three days after the massive explosion and fire killed four neighborses and seriously injured a dozen more. investigators still don't know what caused the gas line to explode as the search for clues continues. the california public utility commission is ordering pg&e to inspect all 5,000 miles of the gas line statewide. they are calling on the utility to change procedure for responding to gas leaks and preserve all records for its work on the line that goes through san bruno.

pge crews are working to -- pg&e crews are working to restore power. lilian kim is live in san bruno with their home coming. lilian? >> beverly mandell's home was initially yellow taged which means she could only go home to retrieve her belongings. inside there are remanence of the pipeline explosion. >> i'm probably gonna have to have a new ceiling or something. that's also got holes in it. >> i expected to be in tears, but i wasn't. i am lucky this house is still standing here. >> dozens of other san bruno residents went back home for the first time since flames tore through their neighborhood. >> i am just so happy. >> she had no idea what she would find upon returning home.

she and her family live within a half block of where the pipeline exploded. their house was for the most part as they left. it it was green taged meaning they could return. >> everything is in shambles and everything here broken. that's what i was expecting. so i was totally surprised when i saw it is like nothing happened. >> like most families whose homes are green taged, their day was busy cleaning up the food spoiled in the refrigerators. pg&e went door-to-door making sure everyone's gas was turned back on. they say it has been a bittersweet day. while they are thankful for their home was not damaged, their heart goes out to their neighbors. >> they have come to see everything is normal in the sense of our home, but some of our dearest friends are right down the hill, and their homes are completely destroyed. >> hopefully we can, during

this time, do what we can to help get them back on their feet. it is a time to pull together. >> after residents have red taged home, there will be a meeting at 1555 crystal springs road. that's the san bruno senior center. lilian kim, abc7 news. >> thank you, lilian. late today, san bruno officials announced two of six people previously reported missing have been located. that leaves four unaccounted for. relatives say three members of the bullis family are all missing. a fourth person is also unaccounted for, but they have not publicly identified that person. investigators know natural gas explosion caused these homes to burn down. now they are trying to determine why that line ruptured. the national transportation safety board began shipping some of the evidence back to

washington, d.c. for analysis. alan wang has more of the efforts to find out how this happened. alan? >> carolyn, behind me is the police command center and pg&e crews are working around the clock to fix the pipeline. the national transportation safety board investigates the movement vessels and material. the natural gas is the material. in the dayses ahead we will hear more about line 132, the gas line that blew up. and today we were given a peek in the investigation. ntsb investigators are turning their attention to the anatomy of the explosion. the pipe was carefully removed today. the answers could lie in the torn metal at ground zero measuring half the length of a football field. >> we don't know at this point whether there was a well

failure, impact from previous construction. >> but investigators are very interested in hearing from people who can tell them when and where they smelled gas prior to the explosion. >> have we been able to confirm rumors claiming people smelled gas and then calling it in? no, we have not been able to do that yet. >> pg&e says it has no reports of a gas leak since the beginning of the month. >> when i smelled it, it was once in awhile say three, almost four weeks ago. >> they want to look at amateur video, and they would like to know about the area around line 132 before it exploded. >> one of the symptom of the gas leak is vegetation dies. we had reports of dead vegetation, and we would like to hear about that. >> jesse says the american hawthorne tree that once stood

across from the blown pipeline was ailing. >> it is odd this time of year the tree is wilting. it should be changing color. it should really have red berries. >> investigatorses are also looking into the recent repair of a sewage pipe that ran next to line 132. >> that will be one of the things we will look at in terms of the insulation and maintenance and repair of the sewer pipe since it is in the vicinity of the gas pipe. >> each tidbit will put together the picture of how this was the worst natural gas line disaster in pg&e's 105-year history. but the ntsb says they need to hear it from you. you can send your account of the explosion or your amateur video to san bruno at ntsb.gov. with this information they hope to put together a preliminary, factual report within the next 30 days.

reporting live in san bruno, alan wang, abc7 news. >> all right, alan. pg&e says the pipe that rupture i had was -- ruptured was considered a high consequence area with more stringent inspections. it was installed in 1956 and last checked for leaks in are ma of. the company said today no leaks were found at that time. in 2009, pg&e listed an 8-mile section between livermore and paw noel as the highest -- pinole as a high risk area. an area north of the explosion was checked for leaks and none was found. san bruno families devastated by thursday's gas line explosion shopped for free at old navy this morning. the store held a private shopping event for families whose homes were lost or damaged. the red cross identified at least 100 families and gave them at least a $250 gift card to spend. charlie gray's home and rv was in the path of the fireball.

fine until she got to this point. >> it was probably one of the most vicious things i had ever seen. >> craig is janelle's colleague at work and lives just around the corner. he says a neighbor called him just after 6:00 a.m., and right here where this truck is park they found janelle alive, barely. >> her wounds were on both sides of her body. she was conscious, but in shock. thought she was gonna die. >> she was attacked by three dogs. witnesses say they were running side by side like pack hunters. according to fairfield police, they escaped from their owner's property. janelle was the first person they went after. >> the dogs were chewing her up and trying to pull her apart literally. >> it happened in front of gary packet's house. luckily he had his gun handy and shot the bull mastiff, like the one you see here.

>> shot him in the head from 20 feet away. apparently just knocked him out. >> it was enough to slow the attack and save jennette agriculture life. the other two dogs ran away and attacked another woman down the road. her injuries not as severe. the two dogs that attacked her was shot by another neighbor who had their gun handy. if things had gone on any longer those dogs may have taken a woman woman's life. >> despite being shot, the bull mastiff has to be put down. officers are asking the district attorney to file charges. one of the three uc berkeley graduate being held in iran could be released from prison in the next two to three days. iran's judiciary set bail at half a million dollars. it is expected to be posted by swiss diplomats because the government has no direct ties with iran. the judiciary says it decided to grant the released based on

the computer does. that's what it is doing with the white scarce that frames the faceses in the crowd. the crowd is seeing the opening night of intel's annual developer forum. and the camera is designed to be mounted on a rear view mirror. the face the camera really wants to see is the driver, not to recognize who is driving, but to tell whether the driving is texting, distracked it or stressed. recognition also plays a role by a phone powered by the newest adam chip. here it recognizes landmarks such as bridges and churches and using gps data that represents information about your surroundings. this 3d camera recognizes what it sees on your kitchen counter. it knows this is a steak and then it projects a menu to any surface and responds to touch commands. does this mean the end of screens? >> can you imagine living in a world where everything is on a display screen?

you know temperatures were more than 9 degree bees low average in san francisco and four degrees cooler than we were yesterday in livermore. it is definitely a trend to be cooling off all summer long, and the trend continues early throughout the workweek. 58 in oakland, and it is bringing the fog to our inland valleys tomorrow. we will see clearing and steady onshore winds. i should say no bump in temperatures. but by thursday, it looks to be a little warmer. and then by the weekend maybe a little rain. overnight lows mainly in the low to mid50s from concord to fremont. cooler upper 40s for napa and santa rosa. we will look for slow clearing tomorrow. trough of low pressure is on the way, and it is sending the cooling sea breeze and the fog that will stay at the shoreline throughout the day. in fact, not even clear

totally out at san francisco tomorrow. and we will look for the sunshine in the afternoon, but with the steady onshore flow. the temperatures still will be kept a little below normal. 73 tomorrow in sunnyvale with mid70s as you head down toward campbell and cupertino. peninsula numbers starting out with gray skies, and then mid to upper 60s from san mateo to menlo park. san francisco just 62 tomorrow. coming down even more for you. in the north bay, waking up to gray skies and clearing by 11:00 in sonoma. 75 for you, 68 in san rafael. numbers are only in the upper 60s with the fog in the morning from hayward to union city. mid70s in the afternoon for castro valley. so it is a few degrees cooler. and our inland valleys, the numbers are coming to the midand upper 70s. so you had a few low 80s today, and it looks like we are going to hold on to the mild weather for the early part of the week. so low clouds and fog are keeping monterey just 61.

music awards in los angeles tonight with eight of them. the outrageous singer picked up the biggest prize of the night in an outfit sure to anger animal rights supporters said to be made from cuts of meat. they presented gaga with her trophy. eminem took the top male video award and best hip hop video. justin bieber won for best new artist. shu and i were both trying to see if they were steaks hanging there. >>
